Giving disappointing news - a management training course

How can you give disappointing news in a way that helps people adjust to it?  Having our hopes dashed is a painful experience.  To enable us to adjust to it we need two things:

  • an opportunity to let off steam – to give vent to the disappointment,
  • time – it’s almost impossible to adjust instantly.

But the more whole-heartedly we can give vent, the quicker we’ll adjust.

Giving disappointing news in this helpful way requires the skills know collectively as "emotional intelligence".  You can develop and practise this on our highly acclaimed London UK management training course, “Skills with People”.

But how can you be sure this training in being helpful when you have to give disappointing news to people is for you?
