What skills will I learn?
You may have come to a point in your career where the drive, knowledge and skill that made you successful in the past are no longer enough. What matters now is how well you communicate, influence, persuade, win people's confidence, get the best out of them, win their cooperation.
The key to all that is a set of skills known as "emotional intelligence". Unfortunately many of us, through upbringing, education, experience and time pressures, have learned to hide, ignore or suppress emotions, and have dampened our natural emotional intelligence. But it's never too late to get it back. At its heart are two skills:
- Recognising and acknowledging other people's emotions In other words, empathy. It enables us to show people we understand them, respect them and are taking them seriously. It gains their trust and makes them more receptive to our influence.
- Making others recognise and acknowledge our emotions In other words, being assertive. It makes others understand and take us seriously. It enables us to set high standards and hold people to them.
The skills have great power to create the right atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding that makes people want to cooperate. We'll ground you in the skills and train you to use them when you need them most. That's when you're under pressure and it's hard to do, and that's why we provide the support of so much one-to-one coaching.
