Building rapport training
The London based "Skills with People" course is an opportunity to develop the skills needed for building rapport. Without building rapport it's hard to achieve a meeting of minds. Building rapport is about the quality of connection you're able to achieve with others. A lack of the ability to do it is a handicap both in life and at work.
At the heart of the "Skills with People" course are two fundamental communication skills. Both are key management skills, and both are crucial for building rapport. It's never too late to learn and improve them. When used in combination they enable you to create an atmosphere of mutual understanding and respect. The course coaches you in each skill separately, then coaches you to use them in combination, then coaches you in applying them to the kinds of interactions at work that you find most difficult to handle.
The two fundamental skills that are the keys to building rapport:
- Recognising and acknowledging other people's emotions. In other words, listening with empathy. Empathy enables us to show people we understand them, respect them and are taking them seriously - thereby gaining their trust and creating rapport. This makes them, in return, more receptive to our influence.
- Making others recognise and acknowledge our emotions. In other words, being assertive. Being assertive is expressing ourselves in a way that makes others take us seriously - thereby gaining their respect.
